The cage is well worth the money you’ll pay for it ANYWHERE. ELSE. ON. THE. INTERNET. BUT. HERE.

Unfortunately, Amazon has decided to charge over $100.00 more than the nearest competitor. I would have NO idea why.

So I purchased mine elsewhere, despite being a looooong time Prime customer.

The cage itself is perfect for rats (Or, I assume, Chinchillas, Degus, Gerbils, etc.). The Ferret Nation was what many of us who like to spoil our rats used, but the wire spacing was a full inch, and only larger rats, or male rats could usually be housed safely in them.

The Critter Nation is nearly identical to the FN, however, the wire spacing is 1/2 inch, and the wires themselves run horizontally, PERFECT for climbing ratties.

SUPER easy to put together, very spacious (be warned, these cages are MASSIVE), with plenty of adjustable shelf locations, and room for toys, hammocks, and goodies.

The manufacturer is exceptional, with a no questions asked one year warranty on all parts included with, in, or on the cage.

I can’t recommend the cage highly enough. Amazon I’m a little disappointed in.

this is a nice cage. the only thing that could be better is if they would put a gaurd around the pans so the bedding wouldn’t fall out.

This is the fourth cage I bought for our rats and we are very pleased with it.

The first cage we got was the Rat Habitat from PetSmart. Super Pet Habitat Defined Rat Habitat Mostly everything on the Rat Habitat is plastic and the parts (wires, clips and shelves) does not seem to fasten properly or hold up very well. This also made it hard to clean. One of the clips that holds the wire to the bottom broke after a couple of weeks.

The second cage we bought was a one-story all metal cage from PetSmart which is nice and easy to clean, but way to small for our two furry friends. We still use it from time to time if we want to move the rats to a different floor for a few hours.

I did buy the MidWest Ferret Nation (again from PetSmart), but returned it because it looked like the distance between the wires were too wide to hold the rats. Midwest 142 Ferret Nation Double-Level Ferret Cage with Ramps

I liked the design though, it is massive and seems to be really good quality so after some research I found Critter Nation which is basically the same cage but with less distance between the wires.

The cage itself is metal, huge, and very heavy. It was very easy to put together. We were planning on having the cage in the family room, but due to the size we decided to put it in the guest room and move it to the family room during the day. It has wheels and rolls easily so this is no problem.

The pans are plastic and too shallow for any bedding. We fixed that by inserting a big plastic box with bedding on the bottom floor. The box covers most of the bottom and the spilling is minimum. The rats have a lot of toys for chewing, but they have chewed a little on both the pans and the box. I do see that the pans may have to be replaced in a year or so if this continues, but I guess it is a concern with all plastic parts in any cage.

The cage is very easy to clean. I either wheel the whole cage out and hose it down or I remove the pans and shelves only. I love the doors. The whole front opens and you have full access to the cage. This is great both for petting and cleaning. I also like that you can close the access between the two floors to keep the rats in one part while you are cleaning the other.

If I could ask for any improvements with this cage it would be a bottom pan deep enough to hold bedding/litter and an external ramp for the rats to get out of the cage. I just ordered the latter today. Midwest Ferret Nation Exterior Ramp

Last, but not least – I decided not to purchase this cage through Amazon as the price was a lot better elsewhere. The price seems to have gone down somewhat since my purchase so it may be a better deal today, but I would recommend comparing prices online.
